Over 40 years experience in manufacturing turned parts and precision repetition engineering…
In 1968 the current Managing Director, Jim Smith, joined the company as a cam auto setter, having previously served his time under Eddie Grey at Lancashire Repetition. In 1970, Wealdpark was relocated to a purpose built facility at its current location in Sutton Road, St. Helens. At that time the company had 21 single spindle cam autos, 4 milling machines and 7 capstan lathes with a workforce of 12. The current Wealdpark board of Jim Smith (Managing Director), Phil Smith and Steve Smith was formed in 1995 when they bought the company from the previous owners. Phil had originally joined Wealdpark in 1989 as Quality Manager, after completing an apprenticeship as a model maker at New World Domestic Appliances. His initial job was to achieve registration to BS 5750. This was done in March 1991 and has since been superseded to the current Steve had joined the company from school as a machine feeder and had progressed to become a machine setter.
The company then continued to grow through the 90’s, now, with over 50 single spindles, a full range of second operation machinery and 55 staff. In 2001 the Directors made a decision to modernise the aging plant. A Star SV32J CNC Sliding Headstock lathe was bought. This had a dramatic impact on the company. Within five years Wealdpark had bought seven Star machines, disposed of over twenty five single spindle cam autos and reduced the workforce by over 50%. In 2009, a decision was made to move away from a paper generated administration system. The company installed the PSL Datatrack management system which looks after day to day processes such as order processing, purchasing, invoicing and quotations. This has resulted in more streamlined and time efficient data entry. Advice notes, quotations and invoicing can now be emailed directly from the system thus reducing our paper usage. In March 2011, a Star SR32JN was installed. This brought the total number of Star machines to 11 and also meant that the company had replaced all of the 53 cam autos. Wealdpark now operate all CNC controlled machines with a total of 19 staff.” Moving into the 21st Century, Wealdpark has a comprehensive range of the latest CNC machinery, which has enabled us to stay competitive against Far Eastern competition and to provide a service which is second to none. |
